Lesson Sequence Week of August 5, 1996
Week Objective: The focus this week is on blocking – contact blocks,
avoidance blocks, and hand blocks. We will also review and reinforce
the back kick and back hook kick – for about 5-10 minutes a day.
Blocking concepts – The student will realize that good blocking is
good defense – always be well guarded and watch your opponent
carefully so they do not put themselves in danger.
Back kick – The student will understand the relationship of side kick
to back kick and the proper: stance, face turn (chin to shoulder),
straight kick, body turn, one piece movement, and adequate speed.
Back hook kick – the student will understand a straight turn, target
line is shoulder line, turn center of gravity – no bending or
swinging. Relate back hook kick to back kick and side kick.

Lesson Sequence Week of July 29, 1996
Week Objective: This is the last of the speed emphasis weeks.
Emphasize speed in that patterns. Attached is another list of the
patterns Sabrina compiled. Mark with a check which patterns you do
with the class. If you – or Sabrina has any others, please add them.
Concentrate on speed with the patterns. We will also briefly review
the back hook kick and jumping back kick.
Jumping back kicks – emphasize jumping up in the air, proper stancebefore
and after the jump, and unified body.
Back hook kick – emphasize a straight turn, target line is shoulder
line, turn center of gravity – no bending or swinging. Relate back
hook kick to back kick and side kick.
Instructors may want to have juniors make a poster of the jump back
kick or back hook kick – they would draw a picture and then list the
important points. The posters would be taken home and would really
impress parents.
Use pads, protection, offense-defense, light sparring without
protection and with protection.

Lesson Sequence Week of July 22, 1996
Week Objective: This week we continue training to add quickness.
Remind the students that to get quicker, they must sprint at other
times – class time alone will not do it.
Every day run – 10 yead run, then 5 yard run, then 3 step run. You
can use contests but make sure slow students are not disgraced – team
contests are best – with changing groups. Concentrate on good
posture, body manuevering (hands up – one peice movement).
By mid week, work on quick stretches front and side – use bars as
appropriate.
Watch that the students knees are not too bent and stand on balls of
feet.
Select from the days activities for each class.

Week Objective: This week we work on speed. The emphasis is on:
light stance
toe – balance on the inside

Additional warm up exercises – fast walking back and forth, running,

Kicks are to the center of the body. Punches are light and quick
